Santiago is a collaborative and strategic Business Analyst, driven by continuous learning and a passion for optimizing energy market operations.

Meet Santiago Posada , a Business Analyst in the wholesale division at CarbonBetter. He enjoys the dynamic nature of the natural gas market, where each day brings new challenges and opportunities to optimize transportation and improve profitability. He works closely with multiple teams, combining analytical insights with collaboration to drive results. He’s passionate about continuous learning and supporting others, and is currently deepening his expertise in natural gas trading to better navigate evolving market conditions.

Santiago, what do you love about working at CarbonBetter?

What I love about working at CarbonBetter is that every day brings something new. The natural gas market is constantly evolving, and that challenge keeps me sharp and curious. As part of the operations team, I get to collaborate with multiple departments—sharing knowledge (and a few good jokes along the way) to continuously improve how we work. It’s a place where learning, teamwork, and a focus on financial goals go hand in hand—and that’s what makes each day both rewarding and fun.

What does your day-to-day look like at CarbonBetter?

Every day on the Ops team feels like stepping into a new challenge. We focus on optimizing gas transportation while constantly adjusting to shifting market prices to maximize profitability. At the same time, we stay alert to new market opportunities by monitoring fundamental drivers like production changes, weather patterns, and flow dynamics. It’s fast-paced, analytical, and collaborative—no two days are the same.

Do you have any personal or professional goals that you’d like to share?

My main objective has always been to create opportunities for others. I truly believe that when people are given the chance to shine—whether through a new job or access to quality education—we all grow as a society. I strive to support the personal and professional development of those around me, and I’m continuously working to become better at it every day.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve gotten is “work to learn, not for money” and “never assume”.

Do you have any personal sustainability habits that are important to you?

Sustainability is something I try to practice in my daily life. I prioritize using public transportation to reduce my carbon footprint and make a conscious effort to recycle whenever possible. I believe small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful change, and it’s important to do our part where we can.

Where did you grow up? What’s something interesting about your hometown?

I grew up in Medellín, Colombia. One of my favorite memories is playing soccer in the streets every afternoon after school—using rocks as goalposts, making friendly bets over who would pay for the drinks, and enjoying the energy of a neighborhood full of kids. Sadly, that kind of street play isn’t as common today, but those moments taught me the value of community, creativity, and simple joys.

Tell us about your family.

My dad loves traveling to small towns around Medellín, especially his hometown—it’s his favorite way to connect with his roots. My mom enjoys painting and drawing, always finding beauty in the details. My sister has a passion for exploring the world, and we often travel together whenever we can. As a family, one of our favorite things is simply sharing meals and spending quality time at the table

What is something that people are usually surprised to learn about you?

People are usually surprised when I tell them I don’t like seafood. It always catches them off guard—especially since most of the people around me absolutely love it! It’s a small thing, but it always sparks fun conversations.

What are some of your hobbies?

My hobbies include playing table tennis, soccer, and going to the gym—staying active helps me recharge and stay focused. I also love traveling to new places and learning about different cultures, especially through their local food. Exploring the world one bite at a time is one of my favorite ways to connect with people and places.

What’s something you’ve learned recently, or something you want to learn?

Professionally, I’m eager to deepen my understanding of natural gas trading—there’s so much complexity in the markets, and I’m excited to keep learning how to navigate them more strategically. On a personal level, I’ve been fascinated by space lately—especially topics like black holes and the mysteries of physics that we still don’t fully understand. There’s something inspiring about exploring both the energy world and the universe at large.

What is something on your bucket-list?

Go skydiving and feel the thrill of freefall

Ski in the U.S. and enjoy the winter mountain experience

Take a road trip through California, exploring coastlines and national parks

Visit New Zealand and take in its incredible natural landscapes

Thanks for sharing, Santiago! We are so lucky to work alongside you every day. Stay tuned for the next team feature in our Life @ CarbonBetter series.
