Meet Trey, Chief of Staff

Trey supports strategic projects and cross-team alignment as CarbonBetter’s Chief of Staff.
Our Chief of Staff at CarbonBetter, Trey Sexton, drives cross-functional alignment and supports high-impact projects that advance the company’s strategic goals. His role consists of both short- and long-term planning, supporting projects across different teams, and filling in wherever he is needed to help meet a deadline or goal. With a background rooted in rural Texas and a passion for trail running and cooking, Trey brings a grounded perspective to fast-paced work. Let’s get to know Trey.

Trey, what do you love about working at CarbonBetter?
At CarbonBetter, I get to solve problems which make others’ lives better, and I get to do it with a collaborative and engaged team. We are working every day to keep the power and heat on while also working toward a net zero future. There are not many places where you can come to work and love what you do and who you do it with.
What does your day-to-day look like at CarbonBetter?
I spend my days supporting different projects and programs that span multiple functions or business units and are particularly impactful for the organization.
No one day looks the same which keeps the job fun! One day I may be focused on company-level long-term strategy and the next might be helping to fill a specific high-priority job.

Where did you grow up? What’s something interesting about your hometown?
I grew up in rural North Central Texas. My hometown had a population of about 2,000 people and is known as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas. We grew up going to Friday night football games, riding horses for ATVs through big fields, and smoking brisket around the pool.
“There are not many places where you can come to work and love what you do and who you do it with.”
Trey on what he loves about working at CarbonBetter
What is your favorite spot/activity in Austin?
I love going for runs, walks, and bike rides through the many trails in Austin. The Butler Hike and Bike trail around Lady Bird Lake is obviously a favorite, but when I want something a little more relaxing I go to Walnut Creek trail to feel like I'm really out in nature!
What are some of your hobbies?
I love to host dinner parties with friends. Typically I cook TexMex (Fajitas are a favorite!), Texan (Ribeye steak and mashed potatoes always satisfy), or American cuisine (grilling burgers in the yard). I took several classes on the culture of food in school and even went to cooking school in San Sebastian for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for sharing, Trey! We are so lucky to work alongside you every day. Stay tuned for the next team feature in our Life @ CarbonBetter series.
